A bolete rosecomb…

I have woefully neglected my blog for more than a year so I’m taking another stab at it. My first posts were about mushroom deformities and oddities so to get back into the swing I want to add a new rosecomb, this time from the Boletaceae.

What you see below is the pore surface of Boletus (Baorangia) bicolor growing out of the cap instead of below the cap as is the normal course of things. All of my previous rosecombs were of gilled mushrooms but as you can see this happens all over the mushroom world.
